During The Offspring’s set at the Starmus VII festival in Bratislava, Slovakia last week, Brian May of Queen joined the band on stage to perform ‘Gone Away’ and cover Queen’s classic track ‘Stone Cold Crazy’. The festival was created by Queen’s guitarist and astrophysicist Brian May and astrophysicist Garik Israelian and has been billed as the “world’s largest science, music and other arts festival”. Other performances at the festival included former Spandau Ballet lead singer Tony Hadley. May also joined French composer and performer Jean-Michel Jarre at the festival.

May and Jarre performed a set that included works spanning his career and a new arrangement of Antonín Dvořák’s ‘New World Symphony’. May played on several songs during Jarre’s set, including ‘Deuxième Rendez-Vous’, ‘New World Symphony’, ‘Last Horizon’ and a cover of Queen’s ‘Brighton Rock’. The concert was the first live performance of the piece ‘Deuxième Rendez-Vous’ since December 2013. They closed the set with the encore ‘The Time Machine’.

Hints that a hologram show featuring the late Queen frontman Freddie Mercury could be on the way have emerged recently. The organisation which has ownership over the singer’s solo works, Mercury Songs Limited, reportedly filed to trademark his moniker for virtual reality and 3D. There has been speculation that a hologram show of the iconic performer could be produced and released in the future.

Brian May’s appearance at the Starmus VII festival along with his musical collaboration with The Offspring and Jean-Michel Jarre prove that his legend continues in the music industry. Queen will always be an iconic band and as their guitarist, May is a symbol of their enduring popularity
