Kelly Clarkson recently performed a version of Weezer’s ‘Say It Ain’t So’ on her television show, joined by Rivers Cuomo and Patrick Wilson. Clarkson has been hosting ‘The Kelly Clarkson Show’ since 2019, where she performs versions of her favourite songs. She’s previously given her take on songs by U2, Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Bloc Party and even the Frasier theme song alongside Kelsey Grammer.
After her Weezer performance, the band posted on Twitter that Clarkson “gave us a run for our money on Kellyoke”. The upcoming ‘Voyage To The Blue Planet’ North American tour celebrates the 30th anniversary of Weezer’s self-titled 1994 debut album, commonly known as ‘The Blue Album’. The band will play the record in full at the shows and have promised rarities and “very special guests”.
Weezer will be joined on their tour by The Flaming Lips and Dinosaur Jr, and will also join The Smashing Pumpkins on tour next month in the UK and Ireland. Cuomo spoke to NME last year about building his new Discord community for fans: “Our musical tastes are very consistent even from the ’90s, really,” he said. “We all still like super emotional songs with great melodies that are catchy and yet somewhat progressive and challenging and complex musically. We like big guitars and weird lyrics. It’s still true.”
Clarkson’s performance with the members of Weezer was a memorable moment on her show, with the American Idol winner exclaiming “I’ve literally never been cool in my life until now!” after singing one of their signature songs with them. The clip has been well-received by fans, with many praising Clarkson’s vocal talent and her ability to bring together musicians from different genres
