Weapons recovered in Walton as part of Community Impact Day

Liverpool City Council, in partnership with several other groups, has conducted a Community Impact Day in the Walton area where two knives, a hammer, and a crossbow bolt were seized from a local park. The event also featured involvement from the council’s private sector housing, street scene, safer stronger communities, alcohol and tobacco teams, Liverpool Alley Angels, the local Neighbourhood Manager, officers, and Sam East, the Councillor for Walton and Cabinet Member for Housing. The aim of the day was to establish direct contact with residents, gather intelligence, and alleviate concerns in response to the activities of Organised Crime Groups (OCGs) in the area.

The neighbourhood policing team executed a search of the local park and Rice Lane Recreational Ground where the weapons were recovered. The day coincided with Operation Sceptre, the Police’s Knife Crime week of action, which also included inspections of alleyways that were carried out by Liverpool Streetscene and Liverpool Alley Angels. The Alcohol and Tobacco Licensing Team’s inspections of local convenience stores in the area led to the seizure of nearly 250 illicit vapes worth over £2,000.

PSH conducted inspections of the privately rented properties in the area, collected information on unlicensed rental properties, and conducted community surveys on Everard Avenue, Willowdale Road, Ashdale Road, and Fazakerley Close where concerns about anti-social behaviour and resident disputes were expressed. The Safer Stronger Communities team delivered relevant leaflets and communicated with residents, reminding them of the services offered by the council. Sam East engaged with the residents, listened and addressed their concerns, and hinted that the council will continue to intensify these kinds of events while collaborating with local communities.

The operation was a joint effort to reassure residents, collect information, and identify potential issues in the area that may go unnoticed or unreported. To address the concerns of local Walton residents, partners came together in a concentrated effort to establish substantial community interventions. Special efforts were also made by the authorities to assure the public that these interventions will continue in Walton and the rest of Liverpool
