The renowned post-punk band, The The, recently revealed that they will be releasing their highly anticipated album ‘Ensoulment’ after 25 years. The album is set to be released on the 6th of September 2022 under Cinéola and earMUSIC. This will be the first album since their 2000 ‘NakedSelf’ record.
The album’s tracklist has been revealed, which includes the already released single ‘Cognitive Dissident’. The album was created by the creative force, Matt Johnson, who demoed and mixed it in London before refining it with the other band members. The album is also set to include previously unpublished works of Matt Johnson’s late brother, Andrew.
The band has also announced an upcoming North American tour and a show in London at the Brixton Academy in October 2022. The band’s frontman, Johnson, promises that ‘Ensoulment’ will offer hope, love, and laughter to their listeners in this age of alienation, post-truth democracy, vassalage and the inexorable rise of artificial intelligence.
This album is set to deliver the same charm that made The The stand out and is the perfect representation of the band in their current state. “It’s vital to be hopeful,” says Johnson. The album, featuring topics around love, war, politics, and what it means to be human in today’s society, is available for pre-order.
This marks the first album from the The in 25 years, although over the years, they have released 4 other soundtrack albums for films such as ‘Tony’ and ‘Hyena’. The announcement of their new album follows their announcement in 2021 of a multi-format project called ‘The Comeback Special’, which documented their Royal Albert Hall concert in 2018, complete with an album, film, and book
