French producer and DJ, I Hate Models, has been removed from the lineup of Marseille’s Le Bon Air festival. The decision came after the festival received a request from I Hate Models to travel to the event via a private jet. He was scheduled to perform on May 18. In a statement posted on Instagram, the festival explained that it has never had an artist fly in on a private jet. They emphasized that their organization is committed to reducing its social and environmental impact and that audiences, artists, and productions must be responsible for the same.
Le Bon Air also pointed out that private jets are highly polluting, consuming up to 50 times more CO2 than a train. The statement has received support from various sources, including industry workers, cultural organizations, and local authorities. They praised the festival’s decision and called it a turning point in addressing environmental concerns in the music industry.
This move comes at a time when several festivals are being criticized for their environmental impact. Some have responded by implementing sustainable policies, while others have been canceled due to safety concerns or poor weather conditions. Nonetheless, the issue of sustainability remains a major challenge for the music industry, and many experts call for more ambitious targets to be set to limit carbon emissions, waste, and plastic use.
In recent years, several musicians have spoken out about the need to reduce their carbon footprint and raise awareness about climate change. They have also taken practical actions to promote sustainable practices, such as reducing water use on tour, using eco-friendly merchandise, and partnering with green organizations. However, this is still a work in progress, and the music industry needs to continue to push for change to ensure a more sustainable future
