Jamie-Lynn Sigler, known for her role as Tony Soprano’s daughter Meadow on The Sopranos, has expressed her disdain with “healthy and perfect” people who choose to take weight-loss drug Ozempic. Speaking on her MeSsy podcast with Christina Applegate, Sigler said that the trend for the drug has left her “a little triggered”. She added that it felt like we were on the road to solidifying body positivity, and the diversity of shape, size, and color, but everyone’s appearance is beginning to look identical.
Both Sigler and Applegate have previously opened up about their experiences with eating disorders, and Sigler was keen to emphasise that she has seen and supports the positive effect the drug has had on those who have “struggled with their weight for a very, very, very long time”. However, Sigler added that she had witnessed friends of hers who were “beautiful and healthy and perfect,” abusing it, which was concerning for her.
Ozempic was initially approved for medical use in the US in 2017 and is a prescribed medication that was originally only used as a treatment for type 2 diabetes. Now, it is also used for long-term weight management and as an anti-obesity medication. Last year, Sigler also revealed that James Gandolfini often publicly doubted himself and would proclaim “I f**king suck” on set during the making of The Sopranos, though she added that she believed he was primarily doing it to help his fellow actors. Gandolfini died on June 19, 2013, aged 51.
The Sopranos spanned over six seasons and featured 86 episodes from 1999 to 2007. The prequel film to The Sopranos, The Many Saints of Newark, was released in 2021 and has been receiving mixed reactions.
