Italy’s “first-ever” disco museum to open in Riccione, Museo Discoteca

On May 19, Museo Discoteca (MUDI), Italy’s first-ever disco museum, will open inside Riccione’s renowned pyramid-shaped music venue, Cocoricò. The museum will feature visual art with music, combining performance, design, and sound throughout multiple spaces inside the iconic venue. MUDI will showcase around 30 works of “prominent Italian artists”, both visual and music-focused that will transform every night into a cultural odyssey that stimulates both the mind and the senses.

An opening event will take place at Cocoricò on May 19, starting with a “sensory performance” from musician and designer Filippo Sorcinelli with ‘Ciao Sex’ inside the venue’s “legendary fluid bathroom”. The night will continue with Salò Collective hosting a performance spanning noise, avant-rock, and psychedelia, while MySecretCase will organize a “cocktail of sexual education and live entertainment”. Films and documentaries will be screened in the T-Room followed by a live poster art exhibition in the Pyramid’s corridors.

Animation collective Collettivo Colore will take over a secret room in the venue, and a “grand finale” will be hosted in the main room showcasing the Italian ballroom scene with voguing performances, a runway, and lip-sync battles. This event is free, and attendees can register for the MUDI’s opening event on Sunday, May 19, through their website.

During this summer, Cocoricò will see performances from Ricardo Villalobos, Deborah De Luca, Amelie Lens, and more. A digital exhibition will also be available soon to bring the exhibition offline and into the virtual space
