Kevin Sinfield's heartfelt thanks after Rob Burrow Leeds marathon

Former rugby star Kevin Sinfield expressed his gratitude to everyone who participated in and supported the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon and Half Marathon. The event was held in honour of Sinfield’s ex-Leeds Rhino teammate Rob Burrow, who was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in 2019. About 14,000 runners, including Burrow’s wife Lindsey, took part and helped raise funds for several charities, including the Motor Neurone Disease Association and a Leeds Hospitals Charity appeal to construct a Rob Burrow Centre for MND.

The races began at 09:00 BST in the AMT Headingley Stadium, and Sinfield, who has raised over £800,000 for MND, also participated in the event. He was greeted at the finish line by Burrow. Speaking to the MND Association after the 26.2-mile (42.2km) run, Sinfield said that the marathon was “a true marathon about friendship and spirit, comradery and teamship.” He thanked the volunteers, runners, organisers, and the people on the streets who added to the day’s specialness.

Jonathan Pryor, the deputy leader of Leeds City Council and the executive member for economy, culture and education, thanked the volunteers and everybody else involved in the race’s organisation, adding that they were incredibly grateful. Melissah Gibson was the first woman to cross the finish line, while Joe Sagar won the men’s event.
