Last October, Olly Alexander agreed to represent the UK at Eurovision this year. This was known as Project Cauliflower, and the preparations for this secret mission began within the next two months. Alexander started recording his album as a solo artist which led to the possibility of using one of his songs for Eurovision. The plan was kept completely confidential and meetings were always conducted behind closed doors in secrecy.
In December, Alexander made it public during the grand finale of Strictly Come Dancing that he would be representing the UK in Eurovision. Eurovision fans were ecstatic about it. He was a perfect pop-star to represent the country with his chart-topping hits and engaging performances
