J.R.R. Tolkien’s fans are using social media to demand that the author’s estate adapt his 1977 story collection, The Silmarillion. Tolkien, the writer behind the Lord Of The Rings universe, authored the book which was published posthumously by his son. Set in and around Middle-earth, the book details stories of supernatural occurrences, mythology, and wars.

Several of Tolkien’s works have been converted into movie franchises, and recent news of a 2026 Lord Of The Rings movie release has encouraged fans to argue for an adaptation of The Silmarillion. Users have cited the book’s many detailed narratives and called for an animated anthology series. However, fans have questioned why the copyright has not yet been secured.

Another user expressed frustration that fans who requested a Silmarillion movie were ignored in favour of three hours of Aragon beating up Gollum, referring to the original Lord Of The Rings movie.

However, as some fans have pointed out, it has still not been clear why the rights to The Silmarillion have not yet been secured
