New ‘The Office’ spin-off to begin filming in US this summer

Peacock has announced that a new series based on the universe of the US version of “The Office” will begin filming this summer. Despite previous rumors, the new show will not be a reboot but will be set in the same universe as the popular series, featuring a new cast and story.

Starring Steve Carell, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, and Rainn Wilson among others, the US Office aired for nine seasons from 2005 to 2013. The new series, co-created by “The Office” writer Greg Daniels and “Nathan for You” co-creator Michael Koman, will also be a mockumentary.

The show will follow a struggling newspaper and its attempts to revive it with a group of volunteer reporters. Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore will lead the cast.

Lisa Katz, president of NBCUniversal Entertainment, said in a statement, “In partnership with Universal Television and led by the creative team of Greg Daniels and Michael Koman, this new series set in the universe of Dunder Mifflin introduces a new cast of characters in a fresh setting ripe for comedic storytelling: a daily newspaper.”

While NBC had previously stated that they had “no plans” to reboot “The Office,” in 2021, it was reported that they were seemingly waiting for Daniels to come to them. Rumors of a reboot of “The Office” were also met with a mixed response from fans last year
