A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a woman in her 60s who was stabbed near a bus stop in north-west London. The victim was treated by paramedics at the scene in Edgware but died shortly before midday. The suspect was apprehended in the Colindale district, described by the Met Police as a “significant development.” The woman’s family has yet to be located, and police are requesting that the public not speculate on whether the suspect and victim are connected.
Specialist detectives’ quick response resulted in the arrest, according to Supt Tony Bellis, from the North-West Command Unit. A cordon was put in place, and crime scene investigators examined the area around Burnt Oak Broadway, where the victim was found. The attack, which happened just before midday, was described by Supt Bellis as shocking, leaving a devastated family behind. The coming days will see an increased police presence in the area.
Due to the nature of the incident and the sensitive feelings involved, there was little information about the suspect or their possible motives. The Met Police has not released any new information, and investigations remain ongoing into the victim’s murder. CCTV footage might provide additional insight into the incident, while residents should provide any information they have to assist the police in locating the victim’s family.
The attack’s violent and sudden nature disturbed residents of the area, as such incidents are rare in peaceful, suburban north-west London. The sheer violence of the attack has people feeling worried about their community’s safety and lends credence to the belief that no place is entirely free of violent crime
