Real-life Martha from ‘Baby Reindeer’ claims Netflix story is “rubbish”

Fiona Harvey, the woman upon which the character Martha from the Netflix hit series Baby Reindeer was allegedly based, has called the show “a load of rubbish” and is threatening legal action. In the series, Martha follows Richard Gadd obsessively after he befriends her while working at a pub. At the end of the show, Martha is sentenced to nine months in jail. Harvey claims that none of this happened and that she was never in prison. She has never been charged or had a trial, nor has she been fined or sentenced to jail. She also says that there are no restraining orders or interdicts against her.

This is the first time that Harvey has given her name to the press. She says that she made this decision “because people have to know what is going on.” She is threatening legal action against Gadd and Netflix. She says that Gadd needs to prove that she went to prison which is something that never happened. She says that the show is “made up” and “hyperbole.” She also claims that while she doesn’t have any money, she is a capable lawyer and can represent herself if necessary.

Last month, Harvey revealed that she had been receiving death threats after the show aired. She said that many of the things that Gadd claimed in the show were untrue. She has not watched the show but says that she has been getting by on “two hours sleep” a night since it was released. She admits to being in Gadd’s company on occasions but denies ever stalking him. She hasn’t seen him in 12 years.

Gadd and Jessica Gunning, who played Martha in the show, have both asked viewers not to speculate on the identities of the characters. Gadd says that this “isn’t the point of our show.
