Charli XCX recently confirmed that she wrote some new songs for pop icon Britney Spears. As per last year’s reports, the singer-songwriter was working on material for Spears’ comeback album, which will be the pop star’s first studio album since 2016’s ‘Glory’. However, none of the tracks made it on the album. Charli had previously written songs for Spears’ 2013 record ‘Britney Jean’ as well.
During a recent interview on ‘Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen’, Charli said, “I did get asked but I don’t know if it’s like… real? I went to Malibu and I wrote. And you always write songs hoping Britney’s gonna record them because she’s the queen of pop.”
Charli also revealed that the unnamed songs didn’t make the cut, adding, “The team was present… But she didn’t record it. She obviously didn’t.” Charli expressed her desire for a collaboration with Spears back in 2014. “Oh my God, if she hit me up I would be so down,” she said at the time. “I’m an endless fan of Britney Spears. She massively inspired me when I was younger and still now.”
Britney Spears made her musical comeback with Elton John collaboration ‘Hold Me Closer’ in 2022. She also released ‘Mind Your Business’ in 2023, with will.i.am, and published her memoir ‘The Woman In Me’. Her 13-year conservatorship under her father, Jamie, ended in late 2021. Last month, the singer claimed there was “no justice” after being left to foot the bill of $2million in legal fees following her conservatorship battle.
Charli XCX is all set to go on a UK arena tour with Shygirl later this year, following the release of her sixth studio album, ‘Brat’, next month
