Amazon Prime Video has confirmed that they are producing a television sequel to the cult classic Blade Runner 2049. The show will be titled Blade Runner 2099, and it was initially announced back in 2022. The show will serve as a follow-up to both the original film from 1982 and the 2017 sequel. Amazon has revealed that Ridley Scott, who directed the original film, will act as an executive producer. Meanwhile, the showrunner for Blade Runner 2099 will be Silka Luisa.

According to Variety, Michelle Yeoh, who won an Oscar for her role in Everything Everywhere All At Once, will be one of the lead actors in the series. She will reportedly play Olwen, a replicant nearing her end of life. Yeoh became the first Asian person to win Best Actress at the Oscars, and the first Malaysian to win any Oscar.

Blade Runner 2049 was a huge box office success, and fans of the films will be excited to see what the television series has to offer. The plot of Blade Runner 2099 hasn’t been revealed yet, but given the quality of the previous two films, audiences can expect something special. Amazon Prime Video has yet to announce a release date for the show, but more details are expected to emerge over the coming months.

In a glowing five-star review of Blade Runner 2049, NME called the film “a world of smog and neon, where impossible skyscrapers carry the rich above the filth and tangle of cities built so densely that from above they look like a single block. It’s a triumph.” Fans will be eager to see if Blade Runner 2099 can live up to the excellence of its predecessors
