Spyglass Media Group has listened to Neve Campbell’s previous concerns about pay discrepancy. The actor had previously talked about her disbelief that a man in her role would have received the same amount. Spyglass eventually came back with a “strong” offer for Scream 7. They approached the actor late last year to reprise her role as Sidney Prescott, after stepping down from the franchise around the time of Scream VI following a pay dispute. The negotiation tactics were different this time around, and Campbell expressed her gratitude for being respectfully heard.
“I’m really grateful that the studio heard me when I talked about pay discrepancy and when I talked about not feeling respectful,” she mentioned in the interview. “When they first approached me [for Scream 7], I thought, ‘I don’t know what respectful looks like to them. We might be in very different places.’ But they started out in a strong place, so that was lovely.” The actor will be returning to her iconic character, Sidney Prescott, in Scream 7. Director Christopher Landon dropped out of Scream 7, and Jenna Ortega also announced that she would not be returning due to other scheduling commitments. Co-star Melissa Barrera had recently been dropped from Scream 7 after posting on Instagram in support of Palestine. The actor has since admitted to feeling “lonely and scared” after her dismissal. However, Neve Campbell expressed her hope that other people have a similar opportunity to be heard about pay discrepancy and negotiation tactics.
“I hope other people get that opportunity too. It feels nice to have put that out into the world and to have been listened to and to have made a difference in that way,” Campbell said.
