‘Gen V’ will not recast Chance Perdomo’s role, will “recraft” season 2 ahead of production this month

Following the tragic death of Chance Perdomo, the actor who played Andre Anderson, Prime Video and the producers of Gen V have announced that they will not recast his role in the show’s second season. Perdomo was involved in a fatal motorcycle accident in March 2021 and died as a result. No other individuals were involved in the accident, and details remain private. The actor’s most recent appearance was in Gen V, a spin-off of Prime Video’s The Boys, where he played a student enrolled in a university founded by Vought International.

In a statement, Prime Video and the producers of Gen V confirmed that they would not replace Perdomo’s character in honour of the late actor. They wrote, “As we continue to navigate the tragic loss of Chance Perdomo, everyone at Gen V is determined to find the best way to respect his memory.” Instead, they will take the time to recraft the show’s storylines as they begin production. “We won’t be recasting the role, because no one can replace Chance. We will honor Chance and his legacy this season.”

When Gen V was released in 2020, it received high praise from critics. Despite the success of other teen superhero shows like Stranger Things and The Umbrella Academy, Gen V was considered its own thing. “It’s comfortable sitting in the shadow of The Boys for the time being and while the gory humor might feel familiar, this smart, sleek spin-off is never less than exciting,” wrote Ali Shutler for NME. Perdomo was also known for his role as Ambrose Spellman in Netflix’s The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and won the award for Best Actor at the 2019 Bafta TV awards for his part in BBC Three drama Killed By My Debt.

Perdomo studied law at university before beginning his acting career in 2017 with a role in CBBC series Hetty Feather. While the details surrounding his untimely death remain private, his legacy as a talented actor will live on through his past and future works
