Following technical issues, rapper A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie’s concert at the Co-op Live arena was moved to the AO Arena in Manchester. Fans said they were “buzzing” to be at the event on Saturday and the atmosphere was electric. The rapper opened the show with an excited “Manchester are you ready” and received an enthusiastic response from the largely teenage crowd. Many fans only found out about the original gig’s cancellation while they were queuing for the doors to open on the day. Boy band Take That and US singer Olivia Rodrigo also had to switch to AO Arena for their concerts due to the setbacks, delays, and cancellations at Co-op Live arena.
Oak View Group, which owns the Co-op Live arena, blamed defective parts of its ventilation system for recent cancellations. The venue said the delays were to allow for “an independent inspection of all elements of the arena ceiling”. Members of the Manchester Arena Support Network have urged the Co-op Live arena to postpone concerts until the building is ready. In 2017, a suicide bombing occurred at an Ariana Grande concert at Manchester Arena, killing 22 and injuring hundreds of others. With the anniversary of the attack approaching, survivors have said safety is “paramount.”
Oak View Group boss Tim Leiweke apologized for the disruption caused and said the company is working hard to have the building ready for 14 May. A spokesperson for the Co-op Live arena has stated that no show or event will operate without necessary approvals. The arena is undergoing rebuilding and fans are hoping to attend the venue with no further issues. Despite all the troubles and uncertainty, fans of the artist had a memorable evening of great music.
