Chris Frantz, the drummer for Talking Heads, took to Instagram with a potentially exciting message for fans, writing “We shall return.” An image shared alongside the message showed a black and white theatrical marquee featuring the band’s name alongside dates in December and an invitation to purchase tickets from Ticketron outlets. Despite fans’ eagerness for a reunion, there is no further information at this time, and it remains to be seen if the members of the band are working on a new project or planning a comeback tour.
The four band members – Frantz, frontman David Byrne, guitarist Jerry Harrison, and bassist Tina Weymouth – made their first public appearance together in over two decades for a Q&A and a screening of their remastered concert film, Stop Making Sense, at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. However, the band’s relationship has been complicated since their breakup in 1991.
In a previous interview with NME, Frantz revealed that he tried to reunite the band on several occasions and was met with firm refusals from Byrne, who stated: “I never want you to ask me that question again. I’m not going to address that matter.” Conversely, Weymouth refused a lucrative $80 million offer from Live Nation for six to eight festival appearances, saying: “We’re just savouring the moment. We’re so happy that it’s resulted in this wonderful thing that’s lasted 40 years. And we’re not really looking too far into the future.”
Despite these conflicting statements, rumours of a reunion have continued to circulate for some time, with high-profile offers being made by Coachella and Live Nation. Fans will be watching with bated breath to see if any further details arise regarding a possible Talking Heads reunion
