Man due in court over Hainault sword attack

A 14-year-old boy named Daniel Anjorin was murdered in a sword attack in Hainault, north-east London. Marcus Arduini Monzo, 36, was charged with his murder and due to appear before the Westminster Magistrates’ Court. The incident occurred on Tuesday morning when police received reports of a car crashing into a house and people being stabbed. Daniel was fatally stabbed, and in addition, four others, including two police officers, were injured. Mr. Monzo was also charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of causing grievous bodily harm, aggravated burglary, and possession of a bladed article.

The Metropolitan Police stated that a man of 33 years was injured when a van crashed into a Laing Close property, after which he was attacked and wounded on his neck. Another man, 35, was cut on his arm inside a neighboring house. Their condition is not life-threatening. Following this, Daniel was attacked and later died in the hospital. Two police officers attending the crime scene also sustained serious injuries, one with arm wounds described as “horrifically serious,” while the other sustained a hand injury. The Met Police Federation said they were both “recuperating well.”

Daniel’s school, Bancroft’s, in Woodford Green, said he was a “true scholar” who had a “positive nature and gentle character.” They described him as a “core member” of the community, and in a statement, they expressed their grief on losing such a young pupil. In Hainault, floral tributes have been laid where the incident occurred, and the police cordon has been lifted. Sue, a retired minister, paid her respects and said the community had come together to support each other, hoping that such an incident never happens again.
