Liverpool City Centre is preparing for the second Eurovision extravaganza in as many years on May 11. Starting at 1pm, Beats on the Streets will take over Castle Street, the Royal Albert Dock Liverpool and Liverpool ONE, with 30 pop-up music and dance performances by local talent. The fun continues at 2pm when the Pier Head hosts Aquatopia, which includes free themed workshops and DJ performances. Participants can also create their own fishy fancy dress accessories and experience performances by Ukrainian acts, sea puppets and dance acts. In addition to the Eurovision-themed events, businesses across the city are planning viewing parties, quizzes and burlesque.
The Liverpool Loves Eurovision programme forms part of a campaign to cement Liverpool’s reputation as the best UK event location. Claire McColgan, Director of Culture, explained that Liverpool hopes to recapture the Eurovision magic that united the city in 2023. She also stated that there is a real team mentality emerging among Liverpool businesses who support Liverpool Loves Eurovision with a range of events that will attract a wide audience.
Liverpool successfully hosted Eurovision 2023, which was deemed the most successful event of its type ever. Liverpool Loves Eurovision wants to extend the reach of what was a successful and popular event among the city’s residents last year. Liverpool is also participating in Comic Con and Taylor Swift events, all part of the Liverpool Loves campaign to position Liverpool as the best place to attend an event in the UK.
