A 17-year-old boy has been detained by police on suspicion of attempted murder following an attack at a school in Sheffield. South Yorkshire Police said two adults and one child were hurt in the incident which occurred at Birley Academy on Birley Lane. The police said officers responded to reports of a “sharp object” being involved. Both adults sustained minor injuries while the child was checked over. The teenager remains in custody.

This has caused many worried parents to gather outside the school’s gates waiting for their children to be released.
One parent expressed their gratitude towards the school for keeping their children safe, stating, “At the end of the day they have kept them safe as much as they could”. Other parents reported receiving text messages from their children who were hiding under their desks, and the lockdown continued until around 11:00am when the pupils were allowed to leave the site.

Another woman rushed straight from work after her son alerted her, saying, “I will feel better once I see him, in these circumstances you are always going to worry even with the school telling you that your child is fine
