Sadiq Khan, the Labour Mayor of London, showcased his DJ skills to journalists earlier this week as he tried to win over the youth vote in the run-up to the mayoral election. Videos captured him playing a “mini set” at Croydon Voluntary Action that saw him mix Abba’s ‘Dancing Queen’ with Jack Harlow’s ‘Lovin’ On Me,’ before breaking into Rick Astley’s hit classic ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’. The UK’s capital city will go to the polls on Thursday and Khan is hoping to secure his third term as Mayor. Polls have suggested he is likely to narrowly beat his Conservative candidate Susan Hall.

The Mayor took the opportunity to discuss the importance of investing in projects such Croydon Voluntary Action to support youth workers and youth clubs across London. “What we’ve seen over the last 14 years is lots of youth clubs closing down, lots of youth workers losing their jobs as a consequence of Conservative austerity”, he said, adding that youth work and clubs play a crucial role in not only reducing crime but also in helping young people to flourish and thrive.

In an interview with The Telegraph, Khan joked “DJ Khan is available for bar mitzvahs, weddings and birthdays”. He also said “what we’ve tried to do is support youth workers and youth clubs, often bringing them together because we’re duplicating services, duplicating provision. This isn’t just about reducing crime, it’s also about young people flourishing and thriving, so lots of things we’re doing from City Hall”.

For those looking to cast their vote tomorrow, the Electoral Commission has provided details on the nearest polling station to them, as well as information on voter ID
