A sword attack which occurred in north-east London has resulted in the charge of a man with the murder of 14-year-old schoolboy Daniel Anjorin. Marcus Arduini Monzo, 36, will appear in court on Thursday over the attack in Hainault, which also led to five others being injured, including two police officers. Witnesses reported a car crashing into a house followed by individuals being stabbed, with those injured receiving neck and arm wounds. Daniel, who was praised by teachers for being “positive and gentle”, later died in hospital after suffering stab wounds.
The Chief Crown Prosecutor for the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), Jaswant Narwal, confirmed that the CPS has authorised charging Monzo with the murder of Daniel Anjorin, as well as two counts of attempted murder, two counts of causing grievous bodily harm, aggravated burglary and possession of a bladed article. It is expected that he will be held accountable for the full extent of the injuries caused by the attack in Hainault.
Described as a “true scholar” with a “positive nature and gentle character”, Bancroft’s school in Woodford Green, which Daniel attended, expressed their grief following his death and described him as a “core member” of their community. Having lost such a young student, the school said that coping with his absence would be difficult.
The CPS and the police service recognise the impact of the “horrific incident” on Daniel’s family and the wider community. The case highlights the dangers of violence involving bladed weapons in the UK, an issue that has seen heightened levels of concern in recent years
