The Mexican leg of Madonna’s Celebration Tour, which took place at Palacio De Los Deportes in Mexico City last Friday (April 26), witnessed a surprise appearance from the celebrated actress, Salma Hayek, as a guest judge for the Vogue segment of the show. Madonna’s career-spanning Celebration Tour features a special guest who judges her dancers’ best moves during ‘Vogue,’ which was judged by Hayek, dressed as eccentric Mexican artist Frida Kahlo from the film Frida in this instance. Madonna and Hayek judged the dancers during an extended version of her signature number. Past guest judges during Madonna’s ongoing tour include Cardi B, FKA Twigs, Diplo, Julia Fox, Julia Garner, Arca and more.
Following her appearance, Hayek took to social media to express her appreciation for the opportunity, saying “Thank you so much @madonna for letting me be a part of your iconic celebration tour. This unforgettable night goes in my bag of precious treasures.” The ‘on-going’ Celebration Tour will culminate on May 4 at Copacabana Beach, Rio De Janero. Reports indicate an estimated 2 million fans turning up for the biggest ever Madonna performance, which is a free show for the masses.
A five-star review of Madonna’s O2 performance, published back in October 2023, in NME noted that “On the opening night of her greatest hits tour Madge delivers the bangers in dazzling fashion, but it’s the emotional moments that make this show truly special.” The review concluded with observations about the cultural significance that Madonna occupies as a pop star. It said “[Madonna] isn’t just a pop star, but also a cultural force who genuinely changed the world by chafing against what society expects from women in the public eye. That’s something worth celebrating in the dazzling, dynamic and at times slightly discombobulating way she presents it here. Really, you wouldn’t have her any other way.”
