Chris Blood, a photographer, recently shared an emotional anecdote on social media about how he managed to click some portrait images of Alex Turner, the lead vocalist of the Arctic Monkeys, on a train journey. Blood, who called Alex Turner his “hero,” shared four images of the singer on Instagram and used the caption to recall how the moment arose, stating it meant a lot to him to meet the singer.
Blood explained that in 2005, the Arctic Monkeys had exploded on MySpace. They were dressed like the common man with lyrics that seemingly mirrored everyday life. Almost two decades later in 2024, Blood was traveling back with his friend, Conor, from Paris to London. At the Gare Du Nord station, Conor whispered to him that he thought the man in a leather jacket with long brown hair and aviators was Alex Turner. It turned out to be the singer who had provided the soundtrack to Blood’s life.
On the train, the two coincidentally ended up sitting next to each other. While Turner was busy writing, Blood mustered up the courage and spoke with the singer-songwriter. Turner was polite and easygoing during their conversation. Blood eventually asked him if he could take his portrait, to which Turner obligingly smiled and agreed.
For Blood, the portraits he took of Alex Turner are deep and personal, reminding him of the fact that life is a series of fortunate events that can conjure up some pretty awesome memories when fully appreciated.
In other Arctic Monkeys news, last October, the band wrapped up the final night of their global tour by bringing out James Ford and Miles Kane as special guests at their show at the 3Arena in Dublin. They were celebrating the release of their latest studio album, ‘The Car,’ which was given a glowing five-star review by NME, describing it as “a swashbuckling, strings-fuelled epic.” According to NME, ‘The Car’ goes some way to addressing some of the last record’s flaws
