Nish Kumar, the British comedian, has suggested that he could be a suitable option to play the iconic fictional spy James Bond in an “elaborate prank”. Speaking in an interview with The Guardian, Kumar mentioned that he reckons that it would be “very cool” to be named as the next James Bond. Kumar went on to propose that the casting of Kumar as Bond would cause a collective meltdown among a particular segment of the British press, which he believed would be profoundly comical.
Kumar additionally discussed the possibility of playing a role in a Hollywood movie, echoing the participation of his colleague James Acaster in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. Kumar suggested that given the franchise’s vast wealth, it may be worthwhile for the next James Bond casting to be a joke, per Barbara Broccoli.
Talk of a new actor taking on the Bond mantle has arisen in recent months, with Aaron Taylor-Johnson rumoured to have been offered the role. EON Productions, the production studio behind the Bond films, is waiting for Johnson’s response. However, neither Johnson nor any of his representatives have validated nor denied these suspicions.
Kumar jested that imagining himself as Bond would be a more arduous journey than portraying a spy than it would be for Acaster to play a Ghostbuster. Kumar also spoke about some of the best and worst career guidance he had ever received. Kumar once disclosed that a comedy agent had given him a reprehensible piece of advice, suggesting that he perform a broad and racist Indian accent at an audition. He added that the best advice he received was from the Outkast lyric, “You’re only as funky as your last cut,” which he interpreted as a cooler variation of the saying, “you’re only as good as your last gig.
