Sanam Harrinanan and Kai Fagan, who were crowned as the best couple on ITV’s popular reality dating show Love Island back in March 2023, have announced that they have got engaged. The couple, who were the winners of the ninth series of the show, announced the news through a post on Instagram, which included a series of photos of them on a boat in Cambridge. Following the post, fellow islanders including Tasha Ghouri and Indiyah Polak congratulated the couple on their engagement.
Sanam and Kai, who are both 25 years old, had coupled up at Casa Amor, the part of the show where boys and girls are separated into two villas and are presented with the opportunity to be tempted away from their current partner. They announced their engagement on Instagram in typical Love Island fashion, with Kai posting a heartfelt message about his partner calling her beautiful, caring, loving, and smart.
The couple had beaten several other pairs to win the £50,000 cash prize in the winter version of Love Island, which was filmed in South Africa. They secured 44% of the public’s votes, which was considerably more than the percentage of any other couple. Sanam and Kai were among the first Love Islanders to appear on the show after the new social media ban was introduced by the makers of the show, ITV, as part of their duty of care policy.
Love Island’s viewing figures have been falling in recent years, with just over a million people watching the finale of the All Stars reboot in February 2022, down from a peak of 6 million back in 2019. Nevertheless, Sanam and Kai’s engagement has once again put the popular show back in the spotlight, highlighting the show’s ability to create real-life love stories
