Ogbert The Nerd, an emo band from New Jersey, has managed to obtain the Bandcamp domain name for Taylor Swift, and has uploaded its screamo music onto it. The band secured use of the URL taylorswift.bandcamp.com, and posted its first track, a blistering 62-second song named ‘Taylor Swift 1’. Following the acquisition, the band’s frontman, Madison James, took to social media, tweeting, “ok secured the url, who’s starting a screamo band with me”.
In a similar move, James has also secured the equivalent Bandcamp page under the My Chemical Romance name, on which he has posted several musical selections, including a Quartz Morrigan album, with the title ‘www dot the quartz’. Interestingly, Taylor Swift’s music industry dominance apparently does not include Bandcamp, although her latest album, ‘The Tortured Poets Department’, broke Spotify records, racking up 300 million streams in one day. The album has also gone in at number one in the UK charts with the biggest opening week in seven years.
Monica Lewinsky has even shown her support for the pop star, using a widespread meme involving a line from Swift’s song ‘Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?’. Posting the phrase, “You wouldn’t last an hour in the asylum where they raised me,” alongside a photograph of the White House, she referenced her infamous sex scandal with Bill Clinton. In a three-star review of ‘The Tortured Poets Department’, NME seemed disappointed, stating, “Swift seems to be in tireless pursuit for superstardom, yet the negative public opinion it can come with irks her, and it’s a tired theme now plaguing her discography.”
Taylor Swift is set to launch the European and UK/Ireland leg of her tour in Paris on May 9, playing eight sold-out concerts in London with Paramore
