Nine-year-old Taylor Swift fan dies after cancer diagnosis, following viral moment with star

In tragic news, a nine-year-old Taylor Swift fan from Perth, Australia named Scarlett Oliver has passed away after being diagnosed with a rare, incurable form of brain cancer known as high-grade glioma. Scarlett had gone viral earlier this year when she shared a touching moment on stage with her favourite singer during a concert in Sydney as part of Swift’s Eras Tour. During the performance, Taylor routinely hands out a signed hat, and after Scarlett’s family made a social media plea, the young girl received the honour and got to embrace her idol.

Scarlett’s father Paul announced her passing just days before her 10th birthday, with her stepmother Natalie later posting a message on Instagram from her father: “My angel, so strong, so brave, so beautiful. Nothing will ever be the same again. Don’t forget me and please find a way to let me know you are ok. Goodnight baby, I love you – Dad.” Scarlett had attended Taylor Swift’s show at Sydney’s Accor Stadium on February 23, with Natalie posting a message the day before asking for help in making Scarlett’s dream come true. The message was spread online and presumably reached Swift and her team, who organised for Scarlett to be taken to the front of stage.

The video of Swift and Scarlett’s hug was shared online and viewed over 30 million times. The following day, Natalie reacted to the special moment, expressing her appreciation for Taylor in making Scarlett’s dream come true and thanking everyone who shared her story. Scarlett had been an “absolute warrior” throughout her treatment and surgeries, Natalie had earlier shared on social media.

The news of Scarlett’s passing has seen an outpouring of tributes from around the world, with many remembering the touching moment she shared with Taylor Swift on stage. Fans have also started sharing messages on social media paying their respects and expressing their condolences to Scarlett’s family. The young girl’s loss is a heartbreaking reminder of the ongoing battle against cancer, and the importance of continuing to support research into finding a cure
