Cardiff: Two men arrested after Colin Richards murder

Police have arrested two men on suspicion of the murder of Colin Richards, a 48-year-old father of seven who died after being stabbed in the leg. An inquest previously heard that Richards was found unconscious in Snowdon Road, Ely, after a disturbance was reported in the Caerau area just before 23:30 BST on 7 April. The men, aged 26 and 18 and from Cardiff, were arrested in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, and are now in police custody. Richards’ family has been informed and is being supported by officers.

The murder investigation, which began after Richards was pronounced dead at University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff, has been ongoing since April. In May, a 20-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident, but later released on police bail. At the time, police urged members of the public to come forward with any information on the circumstances leading up to Richards’ death.

The victim’s family has previously released a statement paying tribute to Richards as a “much-loved father, grandfather, son, brother and friend to many”. The family also requested that their privacy be respected during what they described as a “very difficult and trying time”.

South Wales Police have appealed for anyone with information on the incident to call their incident room or contact them anonymously via Crimestoppers. As of yet, no further details on the arrested men have been released. The investigation continues.

Richards’ death has shocked the local community, with many residents expressing their sadness and horror at the news. Flowers have been left at the scene of the attack on Snowdon Road, and a fundraising campaign has been started to help support the victim’s family during this difficult time
