London Mayor Sadiq Khan has promised to bring WrestleMania to London if he is re-elected for his third term. In a statement released on Thursday, Khan announced that the capital city will also make a bid to host the Super Bowl and NBA, in addition to bidding for the 2040 Olympics. He also stated that London is already the sporting capital of the world and that he wants to take it even further.

The announcement by Khan caught the eye of WWE’s chief content officer and wrestling legend Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque, who replied, “Let’s talk.” WrestleMania has never been hosted in London, but WWE has been taking major events increasingly outside the United States in recent years. In September 2022, the organization brought Clash at the Castle to the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, and the event will return to the UK in June at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland.

Last July, WWE took Money in the Bank to London, marking the first time it was held outside the United States. This year, WWE Backlash will be held in Lyon, France, while Money in the Bank is scheduled to take place in Toronto, Canada, in July, and Bash will be held in Berlin, Germany, in August. Earlier this year, WWE announced that its flagship wrestling program, Raw, will be exclusively shown on Netflix from January 2025.

Netflix will serve as the exclusive home of Raw in countries such as the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Latin America, with more countries and regions to be added over time. The streaming service will also air all of WWE’s weekly shows, including SmackDown and NXT, as well as premium live events such as WrestleMania, SummerSlam, and Royal Rumble outside the United States
