These are Dale Cooper from Twin Peaks’ favourite movies, according to Kyle MacLachlan

Actor Kyle MacLachlan has released a list of 10 films that he believes his Twin Peaks character, FBI agent Dale Cooper, would enjoy. MacLachlan starred as Cooper in the initial run of David Lynch’s cult series, its 1992 spin-off movie Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, and the show’s 2017 comeback. Throughout the series, Cooper is a charming, eccentric investigator who obsesses over quality coffee and cherry pie.

MacLachlan shared his curated list of films on Letterboxd, describing it as “Dale Cooper’s picks”. It includes a range of classic cinema, from the 1954 Alfred Hitchcock thriller Rear Window, to the subversive 1977 Italian horror film Suspiria. The satirical 1979 Peter Sellers comedy-drama Being There is also featured, alongside two noir films – 1944’s Laura and Double Indemnity. Other selections include Ingmar Bergman’s arthouse classic Persona, the James Stewart courtroom drama Anatomy of a Murder and the 1981 sex comedy Waitress!. MacLachlan couldn’t resist including some nods to Twin Peaks, rounding off the list with Lynch’s Blue Velvet and Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me.

These days, MacLachlan stars in the television adaptation of video game franchise Fallout, which was recently released on Prime Video. He even made a video message at the request of his co-star Ella Purnell, who had a friend that was a massive Twin Peaks fan. Speaking to NME, Purnell revealed that she had left it too late to get her friend a Christmas present, so she enlisted the help of MacLachlan to make her friend a video instead. She said “Kyle made him the sweetest video – it’s about two minutes, he puts on a suit – just for this video – like what a nice guy!”, and that her friend cried his eyes out upon receiving it.
