Elisabeth Moss, famed for her roles in Mad Men and The Handmaid’s Tale, has disclosed that she broke a vertebrae while filming a stunt for her upcoming Hulu series, The Veil. The injury left her lying on a roof in Istanbul for two hours and initially unable to move. Moss plays an MI6 agent attempting to stop a terrorist attack in the series.
The actress revealed that during the scene in question, in episode two of The Veil, her character Imogen is attacked by a lead above the Grand Bazaar in Turkey. The first time Moss and her team shot the sequence, she collided with a wall in the wrong way and ended up lying on the roof for a few hours. In the end, she was able to return to work with more limited mobility.
Although she asked to be edited out of the scenes filmed the day after her accident, Moss went ahead with shooting with a broken back. She had discovered she was pregnant earlier in the year, and recently affirmed her support for the Church of Scientology and its openness towards welcoming new members.
Producer Denise Di Novi commented that Moss doesn’t properly capture the difficulty of the stunts that had to be filmed, empathising with her and admitting it was a tough scene. But for her part, Moss remains excited about The Veil’s premiere on Hulu at the end of April
