Billie Eilish has recently revealed that she believes she “overreacted” to being outed by Variety for her sexuality in late 2023. Eilish, who confirmed her sexuality when accepting the Film Song Of The Year Award at the publication’s Hitmakers event, criticised the outlet for outing her during the red carpet event.
Eilish lost Instagram followers as a result of having her sexuality revealed, according to data from social media statistic platform Social Blade. However, in a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the singer said that in hindsight, she overreacted to the incident. She added: “Nobody should be pressured into being one thing or the other, and I think that there’s a lot of wanting labels all over the place.”
During the interview, Eilish also spoke about her deep connections with women, as well as the early sexualisation of her body, which led to her purposely wearing baggy clothing. She also explained how one of the songs from her upcoming album, ‘Lunch’, helped her come to terms with her sexuality: “I’ve been in love with girls for my whole life, but I just didn’t understand – until, last year, I realised I wanted my face in a vagina,” she added.
Eilish’s new album, ‘Hit Me Hard And Soft’ will be released on May 17. The artist has confirmed that physical copies of the LP will be made using 100% recyclable materials
