St. Vincent shares new single ‘Big Time Nothing’

St. Vincent has released the final single from her latest album ‘All Born Screaming’. The funky single, titled ‘Big Time Nothing’, features retro-sounding synth beats and basslines and is accompanied by a music video. The track is a delicate balance of ennui and urgency that exemplifies the sonic palette of the new release. Prior to ‘Big Time Nothing’, the singer-songwriter had released the singles ‘Broken Man’ featuring Dave Grohl and ‘Flea’.

In an interview with NME, the American musician spoke about the making of the album and said that David Grohl’s drumming was instrumental in shaping the song ‘Broken Man’. Explaining the song’s structure, she says that it is a slow-burn from the beginning before gradually building up to a climax with the involvement of three drummers. St. Vincent stated that Mark Guiliana covers the second part of the track, and Grohl joins in the third and final section of the song with a “reckless spirit” that takes it to the edge.

The new album, which is St. Vincent’s seventh, follows the success of her 2021 release ‘Daddy’s Home’ and features some of the industry’s heavyweights such as Freese, Guiliana, and Meldal-Johnsen. Speaking about the album in a separate interview, St. Vincent stated that it is a “heavier” record than its predecessor and described it as “black and white and all the colors in a fire.” She also talked about her experience of working with her friends on the album, including Cate Le Bon, a well-known singer-songwriter and producer.

In other news, St. Vincent has announced her ‘All Born Screaming’ tour across the UK and Europe, which the Heartworms will support. Tickets for the concerts are already available to purchase from Ticketmaster UK and other online ticketing agencies
