Histera, an upcoming arena first-person shooter, has set its sights on an early access release date of May 16. The game will allow players to compete in eight versus eight fights in a constantly shifting arena. The battlefield will be subjected to the whims of a process called the Glitch, which can turn sections of the arena into different eras and landscapes ranging from a futuristic Montorro City to the prehistoric Pliocene Plateau to war-torn mid-20th century Novgorod. This will present a unique challenge to players, forcing them to alter their tactics on the fly depending on the terrain.
The introduction of Glitch reflects mechanics seen in Battlefield 4 where certain events caused a dramatic shift in landscape as buildings fell and the map’s topography shifted in response. Histera launches with two available modes: team deathmatch and territory control. The former will pit two opposing teams against each other to score the most kills. The latter is similar to Call of Duty’s domination mode and will require teams to fight for specific parts of the arena to secure territory.
Players will have access to skins that can be used to customize their characters and weapons via the in-game store, though these changes will be strictly cosmetic with no impact on gameplay stats. A free skin is available for anyone who plays Histera within the first two weeks of early access. The developer, StickyLock Games, has also announced a forthcoming battle pass and game updates during and after the early access period. The game can be found on Steam and wishlisted prior to release.
Histera promises to offer a new take on the arena first-person shooting genre by constantly shifting the battlefield during gameplay. The introduction of Glitch should provide new, unique challenges for players to overcome as they fight for dominance on the constantly-changing map. The addition of skins and an in-game store offers players the ability to personalize their characters and weapons to their liking. The upcoming title is in good hands with developer StickyLock Games, who has outlined plans for a battle pass and game updates following the early access period
