Dave Grohl, alongside Scott Ian and Charlie Benante of Anthrax, have released their cover of Bad Brains’ track ‘The Regulator’. The trio unveiled the single under their G.B.I. moniker as part of a Record Store Day 7-inch release. All proceeds from the vinyl release will be directed toward the healthcare of Bad Brains vocalist HR, who is battling a rare neurological disorder named SUNCT. The song’s video, in which Grohl can be seen performing the drums and singing, was released on 21 April following the vinyl’s release on 20 April.

Speaking about the cover’s origin, Ian noted that Anthrax and Foo Fighters were both recording at the same spot at Studio 606 when he bumped into Grohl and suggested they attempt a Minor Threat or Bad Brains cover; Grohl quickly complied with a Spotify link for ‘The Regulator’. The three accomplished the feat in two takes, emphasising the fun of playing alongside Grohl and hearing his voice alongside their guitar. They are all huge fans of Bad Brains and aren’t unfamiliar with asking, “What would Bad Brains do?” according to Ian.

Record Store Day made a comeback for its 17th year on 20 April, with fans queuing early in the day to get their hands on one-of-a-kind special release vinyl and cassettes from local independent record shops. Several big names such as David Bowie, The 1975, Gorillaz, and Talking Heads put out one-off releases for the annual event. Record Store Day ambassadors Paramore’s split with David Byrne, featuring the band’s cover of Talking Heads’ ‘Burning Down The House’ among other tracks, was identified as the most popular album at the Banquet Records in Kingston.

Foo Fighters is set to perform two shows at the London Stadium as part of their summer UK tour. Foo Fighters drummer Josh Freese recently reminisced about the unexpected moment Grohl asked him to join the band
