Comedian Paul Currie says he’s “not allowed” to play Glastonbury after row with audience member over Palestine

A comedian by the name of Paul Currie has claimed that he is no longer allowed to play at Glastonbury 2024 due to an incident that occurred at one of his shows. The incident took place in February when Currie was accused of hounding a Jewish man out of a London gig as he reportedly refused to applaud a Palestinian flag. Currie encouraged the audience to chant “Free Palestine” and the venue later issued an apology and banned him from performing there again. Now, the comedian alleges that the Campaign Against Anti-Semitism has put pressure on Glastonbury’s organisers not to book him again, and as such, he will not be playing at the festival.

Glastonbury’s organisers, however, responded to this statement by saying that Currie was never booked to perform this year anyways. The comedian has taken to Instagram, saying that he thought he would be playing this year but the offer was retracted due to the controversy that occurred during the February show. He insists that he will continue to fight to defend his right to speak out against Palestine atrocities. There has been a crowdfunding campaign established in support of the comedian; it accuses the venue of falsely branding Paul Currie anti-Semitic and attempting to destroy his career.

Glastonbury has released some details regarding the lineup for Glastonbury 2024. The Acoustic Stage will be headlined by Ocean Colour Scene, Scouting for Girls, and the Gipsy Kings, while the Arrivals stage has been established as the first-ever dedicated South Asian stage. Some of the artists featured on this stage include Bobby Friction, Nabihah Iqbal, Nikki Nair, and Anish Kumar. Furthermore, the entire line-up for Shangri-La has already been announced, with the likes of Kneecap, Bob Vylan, and Lambrini Girls standing out
