Animal rights organisation PETA has rewarded Jason Derulo with gifts after he declared he was cancelling his performance at SeaWorld. The singer had been scheduled to perform at the theme park on April 21, but withdrew following the intervention of PETA. In a press statement, PETA accused SeaWorld of “sexually abusing dolphins and whales by forcibly impregnating them”. In recognition of Derulo’s decision, PETA sent the star a “SeaWorld Sucks” T-shirt, a dolphin-shaped vegan fruit snacks, and a stuffed toy dolphin for his son.
PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman said that “People will continue to turn their backs on SeaWorld as long as it relies on animal exploitation, which is why PETA is calling on the park to move the dolphins and whales it holds captive to seaside sanctuaries.” Country musician Chris Young will replace Derulo at SeaWorld.
Recent allegations have also surfaced concerning Derulo, who was forced to deny charges of sexual harassment in a lawsuit brought by singer Emaza Gibson. The lawsuit accuses Derulo of signing a recording contract with Gibson while expecting sex in return. The suit also alleges breach of contract and intimidation against Derulo. Gibson’s lawsuit is ongoing.
However, in other news, Derulo has revealed plans for his first United Kingdom and Ireland headline tour in five years. The Nu King tour is set to hit the road in 2024, beginning in Bournemouth on March 4 and concluding with a Dublin concert on March 14. Other venues on the tour include the O2 Arena in London, the AO Arena in Manchester and the first Direct Arena in Leeds.
