A12 at Copdock shut after tanker overturns

A fuel tanker overturned in the Copdock interchange near Ipswich early in the morning, causing a major roundabout to close. The A12 northbound between junction 32B and the A14 was closed due to a significant fuel spill according to National Highways. The A14 remained open, according to Suffolk Police. Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service cautioned that the area would remain closed “for a significant part of the day” and advised drivers to find alternative routes. The police reported that 5 crews were present at the location and were working with other emergency services.

Local authorities have found no human error behind the tragic incident at the roundabout. In line with the first investigation reports, a vehicle problem made the crash possible. Teams remain on-site until the leak is contained. Law enforcement authorities and a cleanup crew were sent to the area. Mr. John Smith, the company’s director, noted that they are investigating the causes of the truck rolling over and spilling fuel. Meanwhile, the multi-agency response will continue to work on removing the remaining fuel from the overturned vehicle.
