SZA to be second Black woman receive award from Songwriters Hall Of Fame

SZA is set to receive the Hal David Starlight Award at the Songwriters Hall of Fame Induction and Awards gala in 2024. The award is presented to gifted young songwriters who are making a significant impact in the music industry with their original songs. SZA will become the second black woman to receive the honor after Alicia Keys in 2005.

Nile Rodgers, Chairman of the Songwriters Hall of Fame, said that this was an exciting time for songwriters and music. Iconic artists such as Beyoncé and Taylor Swift are pushing the envelope of what success looks like, but the last two years belong to SZA. She deserves to receive the Hal David Starlight Award in 2024. SZA also expressed her excitement about the honor on Instagram, writing that it was the most meaningful thing to her.

The 2024 event will take place on June 13 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City. It will honor this year’s inductees including R.E.M, Steely Dan, Timbaland, and more. Non-performing writers Hilary Lindsey and Dean Pitchford will also be honored for their contributions to country music and 80s film soundtracks, respectively.

SZA’s latest project is the deluxe version of her second studio album SOS. She has now expanded it into another album called ‘Lana’. Last month, she confirmed on social media that leaked songs surfacing online were intended for her next release. She added that “Lana” deserves more time and music no one’s ever heard before. Additionally, SZA will be headlining Glastonbury Festival this year, marking her first-ever appearance at the event
