Perrie Edwards has heaped praise on Raye, who she calls the “most talented human” she has ever met. In an interview with Apple Music 1, the former Little Mix member spoke about working with the multiple BRIT-winner on her upcoming debut solo album, on which they collaborated on Edwards’ song ‘2-2’. Edwards explained that the song isn’t a traditional collab, as Raye doesn’t feature on it. She said she and Raye were just chatting when the idea of the song came up and described it as “girl talk put into a song.”
Edwards previously talked about her admiration for Raye in an interview with NME earlier this month. She called her the “nicest, most genuine person,” and said her talent was “ridiculous.” They celebrated together when Raye’s single was doing well, and they wrote the song “2-2” that day. When asked how her partner liked the track, Edwards said he really enjoyed it and that she had written about him throughout the album.
Edwards released her debut single ‘Forget About Us’ on April 12. She co-wrote the song with Ed Sheeran, David Hodges, and Steven Solomon. She told NME that the track was “anthemic” and described her first solo record as “eclectic.” Raye, who won a record-breaking six BRIT Awards last month, spoke out against “evil” practices in the music industry, claiming that “songwriters are being manipulated.”
Edwards had previously talked about her nerves over writing music from scratch, explaining how she knew she could sing but didn’t know if she could write. She said that it was fun to experiment and explore her own sound through writing and collaborating with musicians like Raye, and that she found the process empowering. Her debut album doesn’t yet have a title or release date, but she said it was pretty much finished and teased that it had some “nice songs” on it too
