Eurovision – The Return!

Liverpool is celebrating its Eurovision Song Contest 2023 hosting with a day of free events on 11 May. The Liverpool Loves Eurovision series of activities will honour elements of last year’s hugely popular show that attracted about 500,000 people to the city centre. The programme will feature Beats on the Streets, fly high, and Welcome to Aquatopia. The last event will take place on the Pier Head, offering a family-friendly environment, DJ sets, dance performances and sea puppetry. In addition, the Mann Island atrium offers crafty fish workshops that will encourage families to create their own fishy fashion accessories.

More events will be announced soon, including a return for treasure-hunt extravaganza Spot Sonia, but this time in the company of some well-known Eurovision performers. The concert activities aim to make Liverpool the UK’s Eurovision capital and ensure that there is a real heritage to Liverpool’s Eurovision experience. Claire McColgan CBE, Liverpool’s Director of Culture, said that Liverpool did not want to miss anything this year and that they wanted to party all over again. With Liverpool offering a range of events, there is something for everyone to get to the music.

Aquatopia spokesperson Sam Crombie said that last year’s Blue and Yellow Submarine Parade was a joyous experience and that they looked forward to celebrating it again with all their fishy friends in a magical deep-sea party. Along with Eurovision, Comic Con and Taylor Swift will also get the Liverpool Loves treatment in the coming months as part of a wider campaign to promote Liverpool as the best place to attend an event in the UK.
