Evidence has emerged which suggests that a hitman who was allegedly hired to murder a shopkeeper’s wife over 40 years ago had inside information about the whereabouts of money kept at the property. The body of the victim, 36-year-old Carol Morgan, was found at Morgan’s Store in Linslade, Bedfordshire, in August 1981. Allen and Margaret Morgan, who were having a passionate but illicit affair at the time, deny conspiring to kill Carol. However, the prosecution used Luton Crown Court to argue that the killer had prior knowledge of the layout of the store, including a desk drawer in the shop which had a secret mechanism only known to Allen.

Prosecutor Pavlos Panayi KC also said that bank accounts linked to both defendants had made unexplained cash withdrawals before the murder, while a witness stated they had overheard a man in a pub in Dunstable boasting about getting “£500 and between 500 and 1,000 cigarettes” for a “job” in Leighton Buzzard.
