Spiritualized has revealed plans for a reissue of their 2008 album ‘Songs In A&E’ with fresh artwork. In accordance with Fat Possum Records, the record will feature renewed packaging and be available on vinyl from June 21. Pre-ordering is available. Two tracks from the album, ‘Soul On Fire’ and ‘You Lie You Cheat,’ were released along with the new cover photo as part of the announcement.
The photograph of a hospital bed capturing the frontman Jason Pierce was taken during the writing of the album, following his admission to a hospital with double pneumonia. Following Pierce’s recovery, he said, “I remember saying at the time that I felt like people who have these kinds of experiences become more charitable. They change or whatever. But I think I came back partly to the same disappointing person I was before. And sometimes I still feel the same. But a lot of people worked really hard to get me out of there and I also realised just how lucky I was.”
This is the band’s most recent project. The Spaceman Reissue Program: Curated By J. Spaceman featured the newly released album, along with re-releases of ‘Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space’, ‘Pure Phase’, ‘Lazer Guided Melodies,’ and ‘Let It Come Down,’ throughout 2021. In addition, they reissued ‘Amazing Grace’ this year.
Spiritualized is slated to perform at this year’s FOCUS Wales music festival in Wrexham, alongside The Mysterines and Benefits, which will take place from May 9 to 11. Tickets are available for purchase online. The band will also take the stage on May 18 as part of the Brighton Festival
