Dubstep legends Skream and Benga have teamed up to remix singer Charli XCX’s latest single “Von Dutch.” The duo said they are excited to have released their first bit of collaboration in 18 years, assuring fans that there is more to come. Charli’s latest album “Brat” is set for release on June 7 and features production by Hudson Mohawke, Easyfun, Gesaffelstein, A.G. Cook, George Daniel, and Omer Fedi. The remix by Skream and Benga follows another by Charli’s regular collaborator, A.G. Cook, who remixed the same single.
“Club Classics” and “B2B” are two other tracks that have been released prior to the album launch. In “Club Classics,” Charli makes reference to late artist and close friend SOPHIE amidst a rave-inspired composition. Skream and Benga were set to perform back-to-back at this year’s Coachella festival, but were forced to cancel due to issues with Benga’s touring visa.
On Facebook, Skream shared how thrilled they all were with the release of this collaboration. “We’ve gone back 2 the future on this one and are buzzing this is the first bit of music in the new Skream & Benga bag to be out there,” he posted. “Thanks to everyone for their support – the energy shown to us is phenomenal and to Charli – we love you long time.”
It’s been almost two decades since Skream and Benga released the “The Judgement” in 2003, and longtime fans of the duo are hoping the latest collaboration with Charli marks the start of a much-awaited return to the Dubstep music scene. The genre, which was pioneered by the likes of Skream and Benga, rose to fame in the mid 2000s, and has since influenced and shaped the sound of various genres of electronic music.
