Neil Young has revealed that he recently came across the “lost verses” from his 1975 track ‘Cortez The Killer’, which he may perform during his upcoming tour with Crazy Horse. Young shared the news with fans during a Zoom session, where he stated that he had either lost the previously cut verses or encountered technical difficulties while recording the song, leading to the loss of the lyrics. Despite having found the lyrics now, Young states that he still needs to find where they fit in the song.
In a conversation with Rolling Stone, Young reminisced about the recording process for ‘Cortez The Killer’, recalling how their recording had been interrupted just as they were about to finish a “good take” due to a power outage, resulting in the loss of a complete verse. The producer David Briggs informed Young and his band about the mishap, to which Young had reportedly remarked that he “never liked” that verse anyway. However, Young can now revisit the missing verses to experiment with where they fit perfectly into the original song.
In the meantime, fans are already excited to be able to watch Young and Crazy Horse reunite for their upcoming tour. In a new album titled ‘FU##IN’ UP’, the band plans to serve up an array of classic hits from their 50-year-old career, updated for 2024. Recently, Neil Young gave an interview in which he stated the new album was “made for the Horse lovers,” creating a good vibe with the forthcoming release. The album is scheduled to drop on April 20, 2024, on Record Store Day, followed by its release on all major formats on April 26.
Neil Young and Crazy Horse are scheduled to tour North America between April 24 and May 23, with tickets already available on sale. The band last reunited in 2014 to deliver yet another mesmerizing performance at London’s Hyde Park BST. In the meantime, they released their latest album ‘Barn’ in 2021, which received four stars, with NME summarizing that the album accurately conveys Young’s distaste for environmental negligence while reminding us that Neil Young remains as significant as he always has been.
