The highly anticipated third Sonic The Hedgehog movie has found its latest star in Keanu Reeves, who will lend his voice for the character Shadow. According to Variety, Reeves will join an already impressive cast that features Ben Schwartz as Sonic, Jim Carrey, James Marsden, and Idris Elba among others.
Shadow is an anthropomorphic hedgehog and somewhat of an antagonist in the Sonic video game series with black fur. The upcoming film, set for release on December 20, 2024, will draw inspiration from the early 2000s Sonic games, Sonic Adventure 2, and Shadow The Hedgehog. Many of the cast will reprise their roles in the movie, which promises to be an exciting addition to the franchise.
The Sonic The Hedgehog movie series has been commercially successful, grossing over $725.2 million worldwide, with the first movie released in February 2020 becoming the highest-grossing video game film adaptation in North America until its sequel surpassed it in 2022. The second film was reviewed favourably by NME with Schwartz praised for his performance as Sonic, keeping the film’s pace up without overdoing it. The motor-mouthed rodent could be an extremely annoying protagonist in different hands, but here he’s loveable.
Reeves is a multi-talented individual who is predominantly known for his acting. Notably, he became famous as the star of the Matrix trilogy in 1999. Still, he has recently been involved in the John Wick film series and the famous Toy Story franchise. Additionally, he is also a musician, and his band Dogstar announced in May this year that they would be embarking on a UK and European tour this summer, adding yet another string to his already impressive bow
