John Oates shoots down Hall & Oates reunion and says he has “moved on”

John Oates has declared that he has no interest in getting back with Daryl Hall for future Hall & Oates events. The announcement was made on a new interview with Rolling Stone when he was asked about adding an official end date to the career of one of the most successful pop duos of all time. “As far as I’m concerned, I’ve moved on. I feel like I have a new lease on my creative life,” Oates explained.

Last November, Daryl Hall claimed that he was blindsided by Oates’s plan to sell a business stake and was suing him. Oates refuted the accusations, saying that they were false. In January, Oates said that a lawsuit between the two was a “very boring business issue”. He added that “Daryl and I have a business partnership, and there were some things about the business that we disagreed with, which happens all the time in business. And we’re going to work it out.”

Oates went on to confirm that he would not reunite with Hall in the future for any Hall & Oates events, but he was open to fixing their friendship. He said: “Daryl Hall is an amazing individual. But we have different strategies for our lives, as well as our business and personal lives.” They had called themselves “Hall & Oates” because they always wanted to be perceived as two individuals working together. “This is the ultimate expression of that,” Oates said.

Oates emphasized that he had not given up on music completely, saying that he still did it for creative reasons. Oates also added that “Life is funny, you never know what kind of curve it will throw you”, when asked if he saw himself reuniting with Hall in the future. Though Oates has “moved on” from his days with Hall, he still thinks their music “will stand the test of time”.

These comments are similar to an interview Oates gave on David Yontef’s Behind the Velvet Rope podcast at the end of last year. At that time, Oates also said he had “moved on,” but their music “will stand the test of time.
